Good morning everyone and we continue with more posts about SEO and Online Marketing.
I have seen a lot of advice from SEO gurus saying that it is important to put links to your social networks on your website so that they follow you. What we want to do with this action is to get likes, subscribers or followers on social networks like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
If we make a strategic analysis of what we are doing a web project for, we will come to the conclusion that it is to get customers and sales. It’s very simple, we simply make a website to make money. It doesn’t matter if we are a small freelancer or a company, the ultimate goal is to get sales. Therefore, if we have managed to rank a keyword in the Google search engine, and the potential customer has reached our website, what sense does it make to take him to the social network Facebook or Twitter to follow us? The sale of our product has to be done on our website and not on Facebook or Instagram.
Therefore, we must be clear that we have to bring traffic from the social network to our website and not the other way around.
Example of Websites with Social Networks
Here is an example of the new york post that I think is doing badly or at least, it can be improved. I would remove these follow buttons on social networks.
On the USA TODAY website we see that they have put it in the footer, more or less discreetly and they are not looking for people to follow them on social networks from their main website. I guess they will follow a different strategy to get followers and visibility on Facebook, like paying for Facebook ads and things like that.
I’m going to tell you something that maybe you didn’t know; no matter how many likes we get on Facebook, it’s not going to give us more sales. Even Facebook, Twitter or Instagram have lowered the organic reach of the publications you make on their social networks. Now it doesn’t even reach 5% of all your followers. Facebook wants you to pay and promote your post in their Facebook ads so that you have a greater reach to the public.
Therefore, the winning strategy is to drive traffic from your Social Network to your website.
So, if you want to put the links of your social network profiles on your website, you can do it but in the footer or in a discreet place so that people don’t click on the link.
I am more in favor of trying to capture the customer’s email and send them notifications by email because we know one hundred percent that they will receive it. On the other hand, if we make a publication on the Facebook wall, only 5% of your followers will see it organically.
I hope you see a little differently the way to attract customers and that the most important thing is your website. If the customer comes to your website, you have to make the sale within your website.
